XML Sitemap

An XML sitemap is a machine-readable file that lists the URLs on a site and tells search engines when each was last updated. It’s the primary way Google discovers new pages on medium and large sites.

Submitting the sitemap to Google Search Console cuts the average time to indexation from weeks to days. On a WordPress site, SEOPress or a similar plugin generates and updates the sitemap automatically.
